VCAL is a senior secondary school certificate designed as a hands-on alternative to VCE and a different, equally valid way to access further education and training. Classroom work and activities are based around real life scenarios and have, where possible, practical applications to life and work. VCAL is also a pathway to apprenticeships, traineeships and many kinds of employment. There are 3 levels: Foundation, Intermediate and Senior. Classes at Pines Learning are run on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students participate in the VET in Schools program at various TAFEs and RTOs on Wednesdays.
In term two training is being conducted via Zoom in order to meet the COVID-19 restrictions. A copy of the online standards can be found in course downloads.
Plenty of schools and education providers offer VCAL – but not the way we do. At Pines Learning it’s about:
- how we deliver the learning
- the empowerment experience you’ll have
- the potential you’ll achieve and
- he positive future you’ll set up for yourself.
Here is what past students say:
“I’ve definitely grown as a person while doing VCAL here. Once the pressure I’d felt at school was off, I felt free and ready to learn. I can’t wait to see what I can achieve and how far I can go now!”
Grace Year 11
“I’ve improved so much doing VCAL at Pines Learning. I’m just better at everything. I think it’s because of the style of learning suits me. I’ve discovered strengths I didn’t know I had. It’s made me feel confident about the future.”
Lachie Year 11
“I’m staying on to do Year 12 – it’s such a fabulous place to learn with wonderful teachers.”
Taylah Year 11
“When you fit in and the right help’s always available, you learn. That’s what I’ve found, anyway.”
Kayn Year 12
“The teachers are always there and available to us. And they really care. There’s a lot of choice too and heaps more freedom than you get at school. It just makes sense to focus on the learning that’s getting you ready to get and keep a job.”
