Adult Learners’ Week at Pines Learning – Yuko’s Story

UNLOCKING LEARNING – The key to new beginnings

Yuko has successfully completed ESL courses at Pines Learning which has unlocked new opportunities for learning, employment, friends and improved her self-confidence.

Pines Learning celebrated Adult Leaners Week with free Come and Try classes and competitions and a display of student work and staff were available to discuss courses and opportunities.

This year marked the 20th anniversary of celebrating Adult Learners’ Week in Australia. ALW focuses on improving adult literacy and access to education.

Yuko came from Japan about 8 years ago and is a very happy migrant enjoying a new life in Australia. Yuko has been studying English at Pines Learning since 2014 and her English language skills have improved significantly and has recently been successful in a retail job. Yuko has two young children and is so pleased to be able to speak with her children’s friends and teachers and even feels confident enough to chat with shopkeepers. Yuko has made a lot of friends, she no longer feels so shy and socially isolated.

Yuko says, “If I make customers smile, that makes me happy”. She describes her feelings before and now, “Before I felt I didn’t have enough English for life, for being a mother, for being a wife, but now I feel more like me. My children say I am smiling more from my heart now”.” I am more confident and my family are proud of me “.

We congratulate Yuko on her excellent achievements and are very proud of her success.  At Pines Learning we encourage our learners to think, grow, evolve and relax to reach their full potential.

Term 4 classes starts on Monday 5 October and you can visit our Centre, check our website or call to see what we can offer you to help you achieve your dreams.
