Adult Learners’ Week 2018 – Emma tells her story

This story is from Emma, who studied Business Administration Skills at Pines Learning.  Emma discusses the many varied career choices she has made over the course of her life, and refers to learning and education as being “not a filling of the pail but the lighting of a fire.”

Emma goes on to say, “Finding myself on the precipice of what I hope to be a final change in career direction, I am in an adult education class, a space framed with the human story, of endings and beginnings, dreams discovered and unlost, tentative steps towards a renewal of self.  As I stand, in the middle of life’s line, I also reflect on how teachings and learnings come from directions diagonal, vertical and horizontal, located as we are in a classroom bookmarked by an Early Learning Centre and a University of the Third Age.”  And she finishes by agreeing with Dr Seuss when he says that “when you have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself in any direction you choose.”
